Sam Astrich!

What is your name?

Sam Astrich

Where are you from?

Houston

What is your major and why did you decide to pursue such a degree?

Psychology. My past experiences were probably the main reason I chose this degree. I still have no idea what I plan to do after graduation.

Why did you choose Texas A&M?

I think I really wanted to freak out all the Longhorns in my family.

Do you have any older or younger siblings?

I have one older sister, and two older brothers.

Do you have any animals and do they have any tricks?

I happily own no pets, unless my roommate’s bunny counts. The only trick she knows is how to steal my food.

What is your favorite book? Why?

This is hard. I read the play August: Osage County last semester and I loved it. It is now a movie in theatres with Meryl Streep.

Where did you go to high school?

Bellaire High School.

What is your favorite Jewish food?

Wow, this isn’t easy... Kugel maybe.

What is your favorite food?

Salad! Especially Chabad salad.

Favorite Jewish childhood memory.

I had a lot of family that worked at my synagogue, so I loved getting to see them when I was at school. I always felt so at home when I was at services.

What has been your favorite Chabad experience until now?

I love Shabbat dinner, everyone is just so relaxed and it is really a good time.

What is one thing that would enhance Jewish life on campus?

Matzo ball soup everyday.

I know you did Sinai Scholars this past semester. What were your thoughts on the program? Learn anything interesting?

I loved the program. I learned a lot, and it was really interesting getting to listen to everyone else’s opinions on the commandments.

Would you recommend Sinai Scholars to other Jewish students on campus?

Yes, it is totally worth it, a very eye opening experience.

Have you ever traveled outside of the United States? If so, where?

No :( I do hope to go to Israel this summer or next.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Israel is definitely first on the list, then Australia.

If you could pick one superpower what would it be? Why?

Mind reading. I think it would be very helpful in seeing who people truly are.

If you had a message for freshmen what would it be?

Go to dinner on Friday!

What do you love most about being an Aggie (I mean you’re always an Aggie)? WHOOP!

The spirit. I love the spirit at the games.

What has been your most enjoyable class at university thus far?

THAR 281, it was a discussion class on 21st century theatre.

What is your favorite color (think the whole Crayola color scheme)?

I just looked up the Crayola colors, Magic mint.

In your spare time what do you like to do?

I just started painting, and it is absolutely the best idea I’ve ever had.

Did you prefer living on campus or off campus?

Off campus, having a house with friends is great.

If you could have one wish for anything in the world what would it be?

I want a super-shopping spree where I have like 2 hours to put whatever I want into baskets.

What do you love most about Jewish life on campus?

Everyone is very welcoming, like a family away from home.
