JEWISH AGGIE OF THE WEEK
PRESENTS...
What is your name?
Jaclyn Ettinger
Where are you from?
Katy, Texas
What is your current area of study? Why the decision to pursue that field?
Master of Health Administration. I enjoyed learning about the enactment of the Affordable Care Act and how the United States was going to provide 44 million underinsured and uninsured individuals with health care services.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
I hope to be working in Houston for a large hospital system. Although I work for a small physician practice, I see myself in a large hospital setting.
Why did you choose Texas A&M?
A&M was very close to home yet far enough so my parents couldn’t do the usual “pop in” unannounced.
Do you have any older or younger siblings?
I do! I have 2 older siblings, Kyle and Lexie.
Do you have any animals and do they have any tricks?
I have a precious puppy named Daisy. You have probably seen her from the millions of photos I post on Facebook of her. She loves the water and likes to surf in the summer. Surfing for her entails sitting on a boogie board in the pool while we splash and make some waves. Regardless, its cool.
What is your favorite book? Why?
My favorite book by far is To Kill a Mockingbird. I read it in 7th grade and it stuck with me ever since. The message behind it is incredible and I haven’t read another book like it!
Where did you go to high school?
James E. Taylor
What is your favorite Jewish food?
Challah…but it has to be Manyas. Other Challah just cannot compare.
What is your favorite food?
Veggie Lasagna. Seriously, can’t go wrong. Speaking of Veggie Lasagna, why haven’t we ever made this at Chabad?
Why is Jackie Subar your favorite person in the world?
Is this seriously a question? Well I guess I have to answer it. Jax Subar is my favorite person because she always can make me laugh, if I drop anything on the floor I know she will retrieve it, and she is always so spunky. Jax is the kind of gal that you meet and you feel like you have known her for years. This is why I love her!
Favorite Jewish childhood memory.
Going to camp! I loved meeting people from all over the world and building relationships with my counselors. I became a counselor at camp when I was eligible and still communicate with my campers to this day. It was a great learning experience and a way to meet incredible Jewish students!
What has been your favorite Chabad experience until now?
Building relationships with Rabbi, Manya, and the kids! They all have such incredible personalities and I am so lucky to have them here during my time at A&M.
Have you ever traveled outside of the United States? If so, where?
I have. I have been to Israel, Spain, and Mexico.
Have you ever been to Israel? If so, what was your most significant significance there? (emotional, spiritual, inspiring, funny)
I have. It was the most incredible experience of my life yet to date, other than the wedding in November that will occur. I really enjoyed traveling to the Western Wall and praying. It was such an emotional and spiritual experience for me as a Jewish woman.
What are you thinking about right now?
I am thinking about how I am going to finish my Law Exam due Friday.
If you were and animal which animal would best describe you?
Probably a golden retriever. If you know me, you know I am obsessed with them. They are the best animals and nothing can compare. But really, they are loveable, funny, and silly!
If you had a message for freshmen what would it be?
Enjoy your years in college. They truly go by so quickly and I wish I could relive those early days of my college life. Although school is important and the reason why we are here, make friends, go to Aggie sports events, and make memories while you are here.
What do you love most about being an Aggie (I mean you’re always an Aggie)? WHOOP!
The traditions and the network. Everyone recognizes the Aggie ring and I love that sense of pride here at A&M.
What has been your most enjoyable class at university thus far?
Political Science- Soviet Union. I took it with Alexander Pacek and it was the most interesting and learning filled class I have ever taken. We did not read straight from a textbook the whole time. It was an interactive class.
What was the best job you held while here on campus?
I was a residence hall advisor. I lived on campus and had the most incredible roommate Mckenzie. She truly made my experience worthwhile!
What is your favorite color (think the whole Crayola color scheme)?
Lilac. I think it’s beautiful. I love it.
In your spare time what do you like to do?
I like to run, read, cook, spend time with family and friends, and watch my favorite tv shows/movies. I am a little embarrassed by what I watch so I will not list those shows here.
Did you prefer living on campus or off campus?
Off campus!
If you could have one wish for anything in the world what would it be?
For my grandma, Helen, to be able to attend my wedding. She was truly my best friend. I spent countless weekends with her and she always was so warm and nurturing. I wish more than anything she could physically be there on November 8th, but I know that she will be there in spirit with us.
Jackie, I know that you are graduating soon, what are you most looking forward to after graduating? What are you going to miss the most?
I am looking forward to being near my family and living in the same city as my fiancé. Ever since we started dating over 4 years ago, we have never lived in the same city. This will be an exciting and new change for the both of us!
Do you have any post-graduation plans come May?
I graduate on May 17th and will be moving to Clear Lake with my fiancé. I hope to be working in Houston shortly after Graduation and then I get married in November!
